MEHARRY PRESIDENT JOINS PINNACLE BOARD
Nashville, Tenn., Dec. 17, 2007 Meharry Medical College President and CEO Wayne J. Riley, M.D., MPH, MBA, FACP, has joined 16 other prominent business and community leaders on the board of directors of Pinnacle Financial Partners. His service on the board will begin Jan. 1, 2008.
"We are extremely pleased to have the president and CEO of such a prestigious national institution serving on our board. Dr. Riley will bring a keen intellect, strong business acumen and fresh perspectives that will serve Pinnacle and our shareholders well," said Robert A. McCabe Jr., chairman.
Dr. Riley became Meharry's 10th president in January 2007. He was previously vice president and vice dean for health affairs and governmental relations and associate professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and an adjunct professor of management at Rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management, both in Houston. At Houston's Ben Taub General Hospital, Baylor's primary public hospital teaching affiliate, he was assistant chief of medicine and a practicing academic general internist and a resident alumnus of Baylor's highly regarded internal medicine residency training program.
"Dr. Riley's experience is extensive and impressive," said Pinnacle President and CEO Terry Turner. "We look forward to the additional expertise he will bring to our board."
Dr. Riley holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University, the Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree in health systems management from Tulane University and the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. In May 2002 he earned a master's degree from Rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management's (JGSM) MBA for Executives program.
